Artist Statement

I create layered, textural works using painting and mixed media on board, often incorporating vintage magazines and found imagery. My process is rooted in building surfaces that hold stories, merging fragments of the past with a contemporary sensibility. Each piece explores themes of interiors, still life, and coastal influence, drawing from my surroundings in Cornwall and my fascination with colour and texture. A modern figurative painting style that plays with both realism and abstract.

Inspired by the natural world, flowers, fruits & plants, coastal light, seasons and my surroundings. I combine organic forms with antique and vintage influences, especially in textiles and interiors. My background in fashion and knitwear design continues to shape my approach: pattern, surface, and composition are central to how I see and construct my work. I aim to create art that feels tactile and intimate, inspired by artists like Matisse, Cézanne, and Frida Kahlo whose use of mix media, bold colour and subjects deeply resonate with me.

There’s a sense of playfulness in my pieces, a love of layering, of unexpected combinations, of the moment where art meets design. The more time you spend with a piece, the more details reveal themselves: a flash of colour, a hidden scrap of collage, a texture you didn’t see at first. My work is a celebration of the beauty in everyday things, filtered through a lens of nostalgia, colour, and curiosity.
